Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should just forget about taking over from
President William Ruto when he retires.
This is after former
Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga also endorsed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to take his
place as the simmering tensions between the two Mt Kenya politicians hit a
crescendo.
Speaking during an
interview, Njenga emphasised that if Ndindi Nyoro runs for the presidency in
2032, the region would back his bid.
Njenga noted that it
was high time for a president to emerge from Murang'a County, adding the Kiharu
MP would be an excellent pick for the top seat.
"We do not refute that Gachagua is the senior leader in the region.
"However, we cannot fail to
listen to their voices here, Gachagua cannot work alone," he stated.
Additionally, he
dismissed the argument that it was too early for Nyoro to start campaigning for
2032.
In Njenga's view, the
time is ripe to lay the groundwork to allow the youthful MP to marshall enough
support to succeed President William Ruto.
Njenga described Nyoro as an ambitious politician, asking those blocking his political growth to stop.
He also called upon Mt Kenya leaders to unite and speak in unison to
avoid diving the region further.
"I have no
problem with the DP, let him do his job and we will do ours. All I can say is
one person cannot run the country," he remarked.
Njenga also called
upon other politicians to carry out their roles as mandated by the Constitution
before the next election.
