Wednesday, January 17, 2024 - Deputy President Rigathi
Gachagua’s ambitions to succeed President William Ruto in 2032 have received a
huge blow, after his close allies, led by Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga, abandoned him.
In an interview with one of the
local dailies on Tuesday, Kahiga who talked about the supremacy battle between
Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, said the future of Mt Kenya leaders
belongs to young Turks.
However, Kahiga urged those
pushing for 2027 and 2032 succession politics to stop it and let President
William Ruto and his deputy implement their manifesto.
“I want to urge these young
leaders to refrain from talking about 2032 succession politics and instead give
Ruto and Gachagua ample time to implement their manifesto,” Kahiga stated.
Kahiga spoke days after 15
lawmakers from the Mt Kenya region endorsed Ndindi Nyoro as Ruto’s successor
during the 2032 presidential election.
