One Kenya Alliance Party leader, Raila Odinga, has attacked President William
Ruto, accusing him of hijacking Parliament.
Speaking at the burial of Phillip Odero Makabong'o
in Rongo, Migori County, on Friday, Raila claimed that the Kenya Kwanza Government had shackled parliament.
Expressing his
frustration, Raila criticised President William Ruto's administration for
actively amending various constitutional acts, despite not backing the national
document during its inception.
"There is a
team that is busy drafting amendments to various acts of parliament whose aim
is to get back the powers given to county governments constitutionally and
because they have taken parliament captive, they are being passed without any
amendments," claimed Raila.
The Azimio politician
highlighted the hurdles faced during the creation of the 2010 constitution,
emphasising the sacrifices made by Kenyans, some of whom perished in the
process, in the fight for democracy.
"We are dealing with a regime that has gone rogue.
"You see, it took us a long time to come up with this constitution.
"The struggle to come up with a new constitution was not an easy one.
"For instance, some people did not want to hear the word constitution.
"We even lost Odhiambo Mbai, who was the chairman of the
devolution committee at the Bomas of Kenya," he stated.
