Monday, September 14, 2026 - Ugandan authorities have arrested 23‑year‑old Kiprotich Victor, a mechanic from Eldoret, and 41‑year‑old driver Okongo Joseph of Amagoro, Tororo District, after they stole a Kenyan lorry, drove it across the border, and changed its number plates.
The suspected stolen property is Motor Vehicle Registration
No. UAQ 893X.
The arrest was made on September 11, 2026, at around 10:30
a.m., after traffic police officers in Uganda were informed about the stolen
lorry.
They ambushed the suspects as they were driving the lorry
along the Mbale-Kamonkoli-Pallisa Road.
The driver and his passenger were arrested and taken to
Pallisa Police Station, together with the truck, UAQ 893X.
Bukedi North Police spokesperson Kyempasa Wilfred said
police established that the vehicle had been stolen from Kenya.
Police also established that the vehicle's original registration
number plate had been removed and replaced with a Ugandan one.
The original registration plate is KCF 540N, which was
removed and replaced with UAQ 893X.
It was further established that the stolen vehicle had been
reported stolen in Kenya at Katmosi Police Station vide OB 07/2026.
Kyempasa added that, according to the suspects, they had
been instructed to drive the vehicle to Soroti and hand it over to someone
known to them.
