How a doctor was abducted at a city mall by armed suspects who demanded Ksh 3 Million ransom before being rescued in a dramatic police operation (PHOTO)

Thursday, August 6, 2026 - A medical doctor who was abducted by armed suspects and held hostage as they demanded a Ksh 3 million ransom for his release has been rescued in a dramatic police operation carried out by officers from Athi River Police Station.

The victim, identified as Emmanuel Kerich, was reportedly seized while in the company of friends at Juja City Mall after three armed men handcuffed him and forced him into a Subaru Forester, registration number KBK 895W.

According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle's side mirrors displayed a different registration number, KDQ 640F, in what detectives believe was a deliberate attempt to disguise the vehicle during the abduction.

The suspects drove the doctor through several locations, torturing him and demanding a Ksh 3 million ransom before proceeding towards Athi River.

Acting on intelligence and with assistance from members of the public, police tracked the vehicle and intercepted it along the Mavemba-Mugoya Road.

During the operation, two of the suspects escaped on foot, while one was cornered by members of the public and subjected to mob justice before police intervened, rescued him, and rushed him to hospital, where he remains under police guard.

The victim was rescued safely, and officers recovered a pair of handcuffs believed to have been used during the abduction.

The Subaru Forester was also seized as an exhibit to aid ongoing investigations.

Detectives have launched a manhunt for the two fugitive suspects as investigations continue.
