Sunday, August 09, 2026 - Larry Madowo has dared Kenyans who are threatening to cancel him after his surprise appearance at Charlene Ruto’s traditional engagement ceremony.
The Kenyan-born CNN international correspondent was among
the high-profile guests at the Koito ak Chaik held on Saturday, August 8, at
President William Ruto’s home in Kilgoris, Narok County.
The event marked Charlene’s betrothal to Tanzanian
techpreneur Isaya Yunge.
Larry was spotted sharing light moments with President Ruto,
First Lady Rachel Ruto, and other dignitaries.
His presence sparked outrage across social media, with
critics accusing him of betraying youthful voices he had previously covered
during protests against Ruto’s regime.
His name quickly trended on X, with users venting their
disappointment.
“Larry Madowo is laughing with our oppressors,” one
user lamented, while another declared, “I will never trust Larry Madowo again in my
life!”
Unbothered, Larry
clapped back with a tongue-in-cheek post: “Cancel Larry Madowo.”
The defiant remark only fueled the debate, cementing his
role as the latest target of Kenya’s cancel culture.
However, it has emerged that Larry and Isaya Yunge are longtime
friends and he may have attended the ceremony at his invitation.
