2026 - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has
directed that all public officers intending to contest elective seats in the
2027 General Elections must resign by February 9th, 2027.
Speaking on Wednesday, June 24th, during the
launch of the Election Operation Plan 2025–2027, IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu
emphasized that aspirants must vacate public office six months before the
polls.
“A public officer who intends to contest in the General
Election shall resign from public office within six (6) months before the date
of Election, being on or before Tuesday, 9th February, 2027,” she stated.
Nderitu further announced that political parties have until
March 16th, 2027, to submit membership lists, names of candidates
and details of party primaries.
Parties must also conduct primaries and resolve disputes by
May 9th, 2027.
Independent candidates, meanwhile, must not belong to any
registered party by that date and are required to submit their names and
symbols for use in the election.
The nomination exercise for both party and independent
candidates will run between May 29th and June 11th, 2027.
Campaigns will officially begin on May 29th and
end on August 7th, 2027, two days before the election.
