Monday, February 16,
2026 - Outspoken Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, has sparked fresh
controversy after alleging that the Linda Mwananchi rallies, fronted by Edwin
Sifuna, Babu Owino, and James Orengo, are secretly bankrolled by President
William Ruto.
In a fiery social media post on Monday, February 16th,
2026, Salasya claimed that the events were carefully choreographed to paint the
trio as anti-Government crusaders, while in reality, they were “being oiled by
the same Government.”
His remarks followed a dramatic weekend where two factions
of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) staged parallel rallies in Kitengela
and Tononoka Grounds.
“All these meetings ya Kitengela na ya Tononoka are being
sponsored fully by the government na hakuna goon ametumwa hapo,” Salasya
insisted.
He pointed to the Kitengela rally, where tear gas was
unleashed only after speeches had ended, arguing that this was a staged move to
convince Kenyans the leaders were under attack.
According to Salasya, young politicians have been “bought to
confuse Kenyans,” a tactic he believes ultimately benefits Ruto.
He questioned why Sifuna and Babu Owino remain in ODM if
they are truly independent voices, reminding followers that the duo once
championed the now-defunct Kenya Moja movement.
The Kitengela rally itself drew thousands, with Sifuna and
Owino flexing political muscle and rattling ODM’s rival camp led by Oburu
Odinga.
The massive turnout and warm reception reignited online debates about ODM’s internal divisions and the shifting sands of Kenya’s political landscape.
