2026 - Police officers deployed at Garissa University have arrested a
student following a targeted operation prompted by credible intelligence on
drug trafficking within the campus.
According to the National Police Service, officers received
information indicating that a student was involved in the sale and distribution
of narcotic drugs within the school premises.
Acting on the intelligence, police carried out a coordinated
raid on a hostel where the suspect was believed to be operating.
During the operation, officers arrested one student who was
found in possession of 650 rolls of cannabis sativa,
commonly known as bhang.
The large quantity recovered points to an organised drug
distribution operation rather than personal use, raising alarm over the growing
infiltration of narcotics into institutions of learning.
The suspect was immediately taken into police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs.
