Sunday, December 28,
2025 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader and Siaya Senator, Dr.
Oburu Oginga, has dismissed speculation about his health, vowing to remain firm
at the helm of the party.
Speaking on Saturday, December 27th, in Suna
East, Migori County, Oburu declared that those anticipating his imminent
departure are misguided.
He drew a comparison with United States President Donald
Trump, noting that they are age mates.
“I am not going to be shaken; I will sit squarely in that
seat of the ODM party leader.”
“Anybody who thinks that Oburu Oginga is about to die soon
is seriously mistaken.”
“I am the same age as Donald Trump of America. Trump is 82
years old, like me,” he said.
Oburu emphasized that ODM will continue supporting the
broad-based Government arrangement initiated by Raila Odinga, stressing that the
party will not return to the opposition.
“This broad-based arrangement in which Raila left us is the
best. We are going to move forward and ensure that by 2027, our people remain
in Government,” he added.
His remarks follow weeks of speculation about his wellness
after he traveled abroad in November for what his family described as a short
break following the funeral of his brother, Raila Odinga, and the ODM@20
celebrations in Mombasa.
He returned after the passing of his sister, Beryl Achieng
Odinga.
Oburu assumed ODM’s leadership after Raila’s death on
October 15th and was confirmed by the National Governing Council on
November 13th.
