Two suspects arrested ferrying elephant tusks worth Ksh 1.1 million on motorbike in Maralal after police raid (PHOTO)



Monday, October 6, 2025 - Acting on intelligence, officers from the National Police Service in Samburu Central, working jointly with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), have arrested two suspects in Maralal Town for illegal possession of wildlife trophies.

The suspects were found carrying seven pieces of elephant tusks weighing about 11.33 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh 1.1 million.

The ivory had been carefully concealed inside a bag in a bid to evade detection.

Police also impounded a red Boxer motorbike, registration KMPG 524C, which was being used to transport the contraband.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.

Police commended the ongoing collaboration between law enforcement agencies in curbing wildlife crime and protecting Kenya’s endangered species.
