Monday, October 6, 2025 - The Ugandan Police Force (UPF) has denied allegations of abducting Kenyan activists, Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who went missing after attending opposition rallies in Uganda.
Speaking on Monday, October 6th, UPF spokesperson
Kituuma Rusoke stated that the two are not in police custody and no formal
reports have been filed declaring them missing.
“If I had any information to the effect that they are in our
custody, I would have volunteered it here without reservation,” Rusoke said,
adding that he had not been briefed on their whereabouts.
Njagi and Oyoo were last seen on September 30th
accompanying National Unity Platform leader, Bobi Wine, during campaign events
in Buyende and Kamuli Districts.
Their disappearance reportedly occurred after their vehicle
broke down at a fuel station in Kireka, where witnesses claim four armed men
forcibly took them away.
Their phones were switched off shortly after, raising the alarm
over their safety.
The Kenyan High Commission in Kampala has formally requested
Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the matter and assist in
locating the missing activists.
In a letter dated October 3rd, the mission urged
Ugandan authorities to liaise with relevant agencies to ensure their safe
return.
Opposition leader Bobi Wine has accused the Ugandan Government
of orchestrating the abduction, claiming that the activists were targeted for
expressing solidarity with his movement.
“We demand that these brothers be released unconditionally,”
he stated.
The incident has sparked diplomatic concern and intensified
scrutiny over political freedoms in Uganda ahead of the 2026 elections.
