2025 - People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua, has expressed
confidence in her presidential ambitions, confirming that she will seek Kenya’s
top seat in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Speaking during a radio interview on October 21st,
2025, Karua revealed that she has received the official go-ahead from her party
to run for president.
“I look ahead at the possibilities before me, and there is
an election coming in 2027.”
“Therefore, there is a chance for me to be the Chief
Executive Officer of Kenya, aka President,” she stated.
Karua emphasized her commitment to promoting PLP’s ideals
and building a strong campaign to become the party’s flag bearer.
Her declaration adds to the growing list of opposition
figures eyeing the presidency, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua
and Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
She also stressed the importance of governance in solving
national challenges, particularly Kenya’s debt crisis.
“You cannot talk of public debt without first talking of
governance. Everything rests on governance,” she said.
However, she will have to take on the incumbent, President
William Ruto, who is seeking re-election for his second and final term per the
constitution.
