Thursday, September
18, 2025 - Githunguri MP, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has dismissed claims that she
is secretly spying for President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance
(UDA) within Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 17th,
2025, Wamuchomba said that the allegations were politically motivated and
stemmed from her recent condolence visit to Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wah.
Following the visit, some media outlets reported that
Ichung’wah had hinted at Wamuchomba leaking opposition information to the
ruling party.
Wamuchomba challenged these claims, demanding proof.
“Hon Kimani made a speech in my presence and never mentioned
what the media is reporting.”
“I’ve asked for a clip as evidence, none has surfaced,” she
stated.
She expressed frustration over being branded a traitor for
what she described as a sincere act of compassion toward Ichung’wah’s sister,
Wandai Ichung’wah, also known as Cûcû wa County.
“I’ve become a victim of mercy,” she said.
Wamuchomba condemned the accusations as a tactic to silence
her politically.
She reaffirmed her commitment to her constituents and her
advocacy for women’s rights, victims of police brutality, and opposition to
oppressive legislation.
“I will not be bullied into supporting factions I don’t
believe in,” she declared.
Since Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment in October 2024,
Wamuchomba has emerged as a vocal critic of the Ruto administration and a
leading figure in Kenya Moja, a rising opposition movement led by youthful
lawmakers including Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino.
