Magistrate who acquitted OSCAR SUDI in his hate speech case fired by JSC over gross misconduct

Thursday, September 18, 2025 - Former Nakuru Principal Magistrate, Isaac Orenge, who presided over and acquitted Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi, in a high-profile hate speech case, has been fired by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for gross misconduct in a separate matter.

Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto during his tenure as Deputy President, was charged in 2020 for making inflammatory remarks against former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

The case, which stirred national outrage ahead of the 2022 elections, saw Sudi spend a week in custody before being released on a Sh500,000 bail.

He was acquitted in 2022 after Orenge ruled that the evidence was insufficient for conviction.

Now, Orenge’s own conduct has come under scrutiny.

In a letter dated July 30th, 2025, the JSC confirmed his dismissal following a review of his actions in the 2018 commercial dispute Nilestar Holdings Ltd & Another vs Millennium Plastics (2008) Ltd and three others.

The commission found that Orenge issued ex parte eviction orders that led to the demolition of premises, only to later discharge the orders on jurisdictional grounds.

The JSC faulted him for granting the orders without confirming proper service, resulting in irreparable harm to one of the parties.

Orenge served in Nakuru between 2020 and 2024, handling politically sensitive cases like Sudi’s, before his judicial career was cut short by the disciplinary ruling.
