2025 - Ryan Injendi, son of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi, has accused
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of interfering in the United
Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations, which saw him lose the party ticket for
the upcoming Malava by-election.
Speaking on Sunday, September 21st, Ryan alleged
that officials from Mudavadi’s office influenced the primaries, tipping the
scales against him.
“We were with Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and sought an
understanding, but the President advised us to go through nominations.”
“I never saw President Ruto or Farouk Kibet meddling.”
“But why were people from the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s
office in Malava fighting a young man like me?” he questioned.
Despite the accusations, Ryan conceded defeat and
congratulated David Ndakwa, who clinched the UDA ticket with 6,477 votes
against Ryan’s 3,783.
Ndakwa, currently the Minority Leader in the Kakamega County
Assembly, will now face Seth Panyako of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya
(DAP-K), who received a direct ticket.
Despite losing out on the UDA ticket, Ryan reaffirmed his
loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“I will give Ndakwa space to campaign and continue
supporting President Ruto.”
“What he told us at State House is what I’m holding on to.”
The Malava parliamentary seat fell vacant following the
death of Malulu Injendi, who had been elected on an ANC ticket.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
has scheduled the by-election for November 27th, 2025.
The race is expected to draw national attention, with party
dynamics and regional influence playing a key role in the outcome.
