Monday, August 11, 2025 - Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly dismissed plans by Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, to testify before the United States Senate over alleged terror links involving President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking on Monday during the Jukwaa La Usalama
caucus in Narok, Murkomen said the Government will only take Gachagua’s claims
seriously if he returned to Kenya and recorded a formal statement.
He accused the former Deputy President of being unpatriotic
and engaging in rumour-mongering at the expense of national unity, further
alleging that Gachagua tarnished Kenya’s image during his US visit.
“If he has information, he should come home and submit it in
writing to the DCI.”
“That is the only way we will know it is true,” Murkomen
stated.
He described Gachagua’s decision to testify in another
country’s Senate as “laughable” and questioned his mental fitness for higher
office.
Murkomen also clarified that his call for Gachagua to record
a statement was not interference with the National Police Service’s
independence but a restatement of the law.
On Sunday, Gachagua, while addressing a diaspora town hall
at Holy Names University in San Francisco, dared Murkomen to arrest him upon
his return.
He downplayed the CS’ remarks, insisting that it was the US
Senate, not him, investigating Ruto.
“I have nothing useful to tell him. But if the Americans
want me to assist in investigations, I would, because that is where the
investigations are,” Gachagua said.
