Monday, July 7, 2025 - Former police spokesperson, Charles Owino, has issued a chilling warning to activists and civil society groups planning to drag Kenyan security officials to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Speaking during an interview, Owino responded to recent Gen
Z-led protests, some of which turned violent, resulting in damage to public
property.
He criticized what he described as a dangerous trend of
using ICC threats to intimidate law enforcement and Interior Cabinet Secretary,
Kipchumba Murkomen.
He accused certain activists of plotting to destabilize the
country while attempting to "sell fear" to security forces.
In a particularly ominous statement, he added: "We will
go to ICC, but you won’t be there to see us go."
Owino argued that some citizens had crossed a line under the
guise of activism and called on Kenyans to express grievances at the ballot box
in 2027.
His remarks come amid growing public anger over police
brutality - and have reignited fears, given the murky history of past ICC cases
involving high-level Kenyan leaders that collapsed after key witnesses died
under unclear circumstances.
