Friday, June 27, 2025 - President William Ruto’s Senior Advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors, Moses Kuria, has blamed key Kenya Kwanza allies for misleading Mt Kenya residents.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday evening, Kuria
accused Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wah, Embu
Governor, Cecily Mbarire, former Agriculture CS, Mithika Linturi, and MP Ndindi
Nyoro - along with himself - of misleading the region into turning its back on
former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“My good friend Rigathi Gachagua, you, Ichung’wah, Ndindi,
Mbarire, Linturi, and I lied to Mt Kenya to abandon Uhuru Kenyatta,” Kuria
admitted, calling the move a costly miscalculation that has left the region
vulnerable and disillusioned.
His remarks were triggered by the deadly chaos that rocked
the country during recent protests, in which several youths - some from Mt
Kenya - lost their lives.
Kuria accused Gachagua of sponsoring the unrest and called
on him to stop the destruction, warning it was hurting their own people.
“Did we do that only to convert them into criminals
destroying our very own properties and businesses? Stop it, brother,” he urged.
Before the 2022 election, Uhuru had advised Mt Kenya voters
to support Raila Odinga.
However, the region overwhelmingly voted for Ruto, a
decision Kuria now says has had dire consequences.
His comments come amid mounting pressure on Gachagua, with
some leaders calling for his arrest over alleged incitement.
Gachagua has since denied the claims, blaming the state for
the violence.
