Monday, June 16, 2025 - The Kenyan Government has strongly denied claims that it is supplying arms to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.
The clarification comes in the wake of an investigative
report aired by NTV on Sunday, June 15th, which alleged that
ammunition marked for Kenya had been recovered from RSF fighters.
Speaking on Monday, June 16th, Government
Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said the allegations were unfounded and politically
motivated.
“The Kenyan Government is supporting the peace process in
Sudan under IGAD led by the President.”
“Any other assertion is a matter of conjecture. Kenya
remains a peace builder in this region,” he said.
Mwaura emphasized Kenya’s long-standing reputation as a
neutral diplomatic actor, noting that the country is currently engaged in
humanitarian efforts and conflict resolution.
“Kenya has distinguished itself as a beacon of peace.”
“We have pledged $2 million (Ksh256 million) in humanitarian
aid for Sudan and will continue supporting the peace process,” he added.
He clarified that Kenya is open to mediating talks among the
Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), the RSF, and other stakeholders.
“We are non-allied and non-partisan. Kenya is ready to host
peace talks to find a lasting solution,” Mwaura stated.
The NTV expose comes after former Deputy President Rigathi
Gachagua accused President William Ruto of directly supplying arms to the RSF.
“The real commander of RSF is not
Hemedti, it is William Ruto. The money from gold is being cleaned through Kenya
to buy firearms,” Gachagua said in a past interview.
