Friday, August 23, 2024 - Milimani Magistrate Susan Shitubi should be investigated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) over a case in which she has released a man who stole Sh 9 million from Eco Bank Westlands on a cash bail of Sh 500,000.
Jeremiah Anakoli Amoyo was charged before the Milimani Courts
with stealing Sh 9,113,748.25 on diverse dates between February 1, and February
5, 2024.
Amoyo was also charged with an alternative count of
intentionally withholding electronic payments delivered erroneously to him.
The Court was told that Amoyo intentionally withheld
electronic payment amounting to Sh 9,113,748.25 which were delivered in error
to his account number held at EcoBank.
Amayo was arrested on August 21, 2024, and so far, the State
has listed five witnesses in the case.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on Friday,
Amayo denied the charges.
He was released on a Sh1 million bond with an alternative of
Sh500,000 cash bail.
Many Kenyans have questioned the ruling asking JSC to probe
the magistrate because there is no justice when a person steals Sh 9 million
and is released on a Sh 500,000 bail.
Court sources said Amayo’s lawyers ‘talked to the magistrate’
before and that may be the reason for the skewed bail ruling.
