Friday August 23, 2024 – It is not over yet for President William Ruto after killing unarmed Gen Zs during the anti-Government protests.
This is after Narc Kenya Party Leader, Martha Karua,
threatened to file complaints against him for human rights violations during
the recent anti-Government protests.
Speaking yesterday, Karua said she will submit the complaint
to the African Union Commission on Human Rights and the United Nations (UN)
Commission on Human Rights among other global human rights bodies.
She said that every life lost during the nationwide protests
should be accounted for and the perpetrators brought to justice.
“Every Kenyan life is sacred and every drop of blood spilt in
the fight for justice must be accounted for.”
“In light of these grave concerns, we will submit this
statement and more details as a formal complaint to the African Union
Commission on Human Rights the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, and
all other relevant organizations,” said Karua.
The Narc Kenya party leader pointed out that Kenya is a party
to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights and the UN Charter and is
there obligated to uphold rights contained in the charters.
“As a state party to the African Charter on human and
people’s rights, the UN charter, and other international instruments, Kenya is
obligated to uphold the rights contained therein. Our constitution demands no
less,” she remarked.
The protests started in June calling for the rejection of the
controversial Finance Bill 2024 before escalating to governance and other
issues.
