Speaking in Parliament
yesterday, Ichung'wah asserted that Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome
had informed him about a plot by Gen Zs to seize control of the parliament
during the protests.
Ichung'wah, who also serves as
the Kikuyu MP, made these remarks following inquiries into the blockade of the
parliament premises by police officers.
"The inspector general of
police confirmed to me that there were organised groups who had planned to take
siege of parliament and criminal elements who also intended to use the ongoing
peaceful demonstrations to access the parliament and cause harm to MPs,"
he said.
President William Ruto's ally
pointed out that the blockade facilitated easy access for legislators and all
parliamentary staff to the precincts of parliament.
He emphasised that the improved
security measures would ensure that MPs could vote on the bill freely, without
undue influence or pressure.
