Friday, March 15, 2024 - Flamboyant businessman, Steve Mbogo, has promised former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Sh 10 million if he wins the African Union Chairperson contest.
Last month,
Raila Odinga, who is in his sunset years, announced that he is in the race to
succeed current AUC chairperson, Mousa Faki.
President
William Ruto has said his government is solidly behind Raila’s bid and pledged
to use government resources to ensure the old man succeeds.
But Mbogo,
who is also a politician, claimed that
the Kenya Kwanza administration and people around the ODM leader were lying to
him about the possibility of winning the seat.
According to Mbogo, Raila is
disadvantaged because the Kenyan administration supports the Western countries,
yet most African countries are either pro-Russian or pro-China.
He argued that Raila would find it
hard to get votes from the Francophone countries, which command a significant
voting bloc.
"For you to clinch that seat
you need a minimum of 2/3 of the votes. Approximately 49 out of 54 countries
today are pro-Russian, pro-china and all these countries are not going to
support a candidate from a country that is pro-west,” Mbogo said.
"Today I want to pledge and I
want to be serious, Today, in the holy month of Ramadhan, If Raila gets the AU
seat, I will give him 10 million. I am saying so because I am 100% sure that
Raila will not clinch that seat," Mbogo added.
