Thursday, January 18, 2024 - It is now emerging that an unknown person tampered with footage captured by security cameras at the scene where the body of Dr. Laban Kiptoo was discovered inside the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The hospital’s senior management
revealed that security cameras at the hospital were functional when Kiptoo’s
body was discovered.
All the CCTV cameras at the facility
were also operational the night before the body was found.
However, an unknown person interfered
with the memory card
“Our CCTV cameras were active that Friday night but an unknown individual tampered with the memory card.
"We do not know how and why.
"We are yet to establish that.
"We are in the process of
repairing all the CCTV cameras in the facility,” said Dr. James Waweru, a
medical superintendent.
Police have so far questioned 10
people about the murder.
A postmortem report revealed that
the slain doctor died from manual strangulation.
He had injuries on his neck, head,
abdomen, wrists, and lips, ruling out the possibility of drowning as he was
discovered in a trench.
Kiptoo was last seen partying at an
entertainment joint along the Nakuru- Kabarnet Road before he met his death.
He left the club alone and left two
of his friends drinking.
“He was on his phone throughout.
"He left two of his drinking friends at the club.
"They followed him
but the two came back and continued having their drinks and left thereafter,” a waiter said.
A reveller claimed that Kiptoo got
onto a motorcycle after leaving the club and asked to be taken to the hospital.
It is not clear how he met his death
along the way.
