Friday, January 19, 2024 –
Embattled Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s brother may have murdered Meru blogger,
Sniper, in cold blood.
This is
after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) found irrefutable
evidence to sustain murder charges against Mwangaza’s brother and one other
suspect arrested for the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias
Sniper.
In a
statement released by the ODPP, the prosecution noted that the department had
received files from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for
inquiry and advice regarding the case.
The
office upon thorough analysis of the facts presented in the documents concluded
that there was enough evidence to prefer murder charges on Vincent Murithi
Kirimi alias Supuu and Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's brother, Murangiri
Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.
“The
director of public prosecutions (DPP) is satisfied that there is sufficient
evidence to sustain the charge of murder against Vincent Murithi Kirimi alias
Supuu and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali,” the statement read in
part.
ODPP
further directed the two suspects to be arraigned at the High Court in Kiambu
for the offence at a later date.
It also
filed a miscellaneous application against five other suspects which are pending
at the Kibera Law Courts.
“The
ODPP undertakes to prosecute the matter expeditiously, and shall upon
completion of the investigations issue appropriate directions,” the statement
added.
Detectives
drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, January
5, arrested Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza’s brother and five other suspects
linked to the murder of Sniper.
According
to documents from the DCI, the accused persons contacted the Meru blogger,
assuring him of a meeting with Mwangaza to discuss a truce.
The
department further claimed that evidence showed that Sniper had travelled from
his home in Igembe South to Meru town to meet the suspects before he was
reported missing.
Daniel
Muthiani, who is widely known for his political opinions, was found dead
on Sunday, December 17, 2023, under mysterious circumstances after missing
for over three weeks.
