Monday, November 2, 2026 - Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has suggested that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should fly the opposition's presidential flag in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV, Malala said Sifuna would make a good presidential candidate, with an experienced, older politician taking the
deputy presidency.
“I would
definitely say Sifuna flying the presidential flag and any other elderly person
taking up the deputy presidency,” Malala said.
He argued
that the opposition needed a combination of youthful, fresh leadership and
experience to challenge President William Ruto.
“We need to
have a cocktail of young, fresh leadership with past experience, he added.
However,
Malala quickly clarified that his proposal was his personal opinion and did not represent the DCP party's official position.
“My personal
opinion is that let Sifuna fly the ticket; that is not DCP's position,” he
stated.
His remarks
come amid growing debate within opposition ranks over the coalition's
presidential candidate and the best political combination to challenge Ruto in
2027.
Sifuna is
emerging as one of the key figures in the United Opposition, with his youthful
profile and age potentially giving him an advantage as leaders weigh their
options ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
