Monday, August 31, 2026 - A person who studied alongside Pius Muiru Mbugua, a key suspect in the murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso, has expressed shock after seeing his name linked to the high-profile murder.
In a
social media post, the former university schoolmate said he knew Mbugua
personally, having studied together at the University of Nairobi’s School of
Social Sciences, where Mbugua pursued Political Science.
The two
also reportedly lived in the same residential hall and graduated in December
2022.
“Today, while doing my usual rounds browsing online, I was deeply shocked by what I saw
on the DCI Facebook wall. A person I know personally has been linked to the
murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso,” the schoolmate wrote.
He said
they had once shared aspirations of working in government after university.
According
to the post, Mbugua and his accomplice, Bett, a police officer, were close
friends before both eventually found themselves on the wrong side of the law.
The
schoolmate further claimed that Pius serves as the personal assistant to Molo
Member of Parliament Francis Kuria Kimani.
He also
alleged that Mbugua had previously been accused of selling fake Teachers
Service Commission (TSC).
According
to DCI, Mbugua served as the paymaster, moving money for logistics and
transport for the hit squad.
