- Nyandarua Senator John Methu, a close ally of Deputy President Rigathi
Gachagua, was among thousands of fans at the London Stadium on Sunday where
Arsenal edged West Ham 1-0 in a dramatic Premier League clash.
Methu, who had thrown his weight behind the Hammers,
experienced the full rollercoaster of football emotions, joy, heartbreak and
disbelief, all in the space of minutes.
West Ham thought they had equalised when Callum Wilson’s
strike hit the back of the net.
Methu, seated among jubilant home supporters, leapt in
celebration, convinced the goal had derailed Arsenal’s match to a first Premier
league title in 22 years.
But VAR had other ideas.
After a lengthy review, the referee chalked off the goal
interference with the goalkeeper, leaving the stadium stunned and Methu
crestfallen.
Arsenal had taken the lead courtesy of Leandro Trossard’s 82nd
minute strike and held own to bag the three precious points.
The result opened a five-point gap over Manchester City,
keeping the Gunners firmly in control of their title chase.
Later, the Senator shared a clip>>> of his premature
celebrations, captioning: “I was at the London Stadium supporting West Ham. That ref has done
us bad.”
His reaction quickly went viral, sparking online banter.
