Wednesday, May 6, 2026 - Residents of Belgut Constituency in Kericho County have resorted to constructing a makeshift bridge over a stream after years of stalled development and unfulfilled promises from elected leaders.
According to locals, repeated appeals to area leaders to
build a safe and permanent bridge have gone unanswered, forcing the community
to take matters into their own hands.
The temporary structure, though risky, is now being used
daily by residents, including school-going children and traders who rely on the
route.
The situation has sparked anger among residents, who say the
lack of proper infrastructure has exposed them to danger and disrupted their
daily activities, especially during the rainy season when the stream becomes
impassable.
Now, the residents are warning that they will express their
frustration at the ballot, accusing local leaders of neglect and failure to
deliver meaningful development.
Some pointed out that most of the leaders in the area are
aligned with President William Ruto’s administration, and insist that this will
not shield them from accountability.
