President RUTO shares images of proposed Ksh 3 billion modern Gikomba market amid demolition uproar (LOOK)

Tuesday, March 31, 2026 - President William Ruto has sought to calm tensions following night demolitions at Gikomba Market that left traders stranded.

On Tuesday, March 31st, the Head of State shared a clip highlighting his vision for a modernized Gikomba, compiling past remarks where he pledged to transform the iconic trading hub.

“We must pay attention to Gikomba Market because it is a national market serving traders across Kenya,” Ruto’s voiceover stated.

He revealed plans to secure Ksh3 billion for the expansion project, aimed at creating a more conducive environment for small‑scale businesses.

From the images, some recreational facilities are to be included in the new space

However, the demolitions have sparked outrage online, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua condemning the exercise as inhumane and alleging it was political vendetta.
