Tuesday, October 28,
2025 - Kenyan radio personality, Alex Mwakideu, has questioned the rising
tide of anti-marriage discourse on social media.
Taking to Instagram, Mwakideu expressed concern over the
growing number of people, particularly singles and divorcees, who are publicly
dismissing the value of marriage.
“Let me say this, I don’t know what is going on… This
anti-marriage conversation is going on on social media.”
“What is it about? What’s up? Nini mbaya?” he asked.
Mwakideu noted that while marriage isn’t a bed of roses, it
shouldn’t be casually labeled a scam.
“The other day, marriage hubamba mafala, I have a lot of questions I am
asking myself.”
“Hii kelele ingine ya watu hawajaoa, ama
hawajaolewa ama wame divorce inakua mingi sana mtandaoni,” he
added.
He shared that he’s had his own ups and downs in his
relationship, but insisted that the institution deserves respect.
“Let me say this, to date, I have my issues kwa marriage yangu.”
“But even if I get divorced today, you will never ever hear me say
marriage is a scam.”
“No way. Come on, stop that nonsense. Achana na hiyo story.
Hakuna kitu kama hiyo,” he said.
He likened marriage to starting a business - something that
requires research, preparation, and commitment.
“You wouldn’t open a restaurant without doing your homework.”
“Marriage is the same. Did you study the person you’re
marrying?” he asked.
Mwakideu urged Kenyans to stop normalizing negativity around
relationships and instead approach marriage with intention and maturity.
