29, 2025 - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) acting party leader, Oburu
Oginga, has moved to reassure Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, of the party’s
backing in his bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027 - if he wins the
nominations.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 28th, Oburu
addressed growing concerns from Babu, who recently expressed frustration over
what he perceives as sidelining within ODM.
The Siaya Senator urged the youthful lawmaker not to walk
away from the party, emphasizing that loyalty and merit will guide the
nomination process.
“I’ve heard Babu is troubled, thinking ODM might block his
bid, but I don’t understand why he feels that way,” Oburu said.
“If he wins the nominations, there’s absolutely no reason he
wouldn’t get the ticket.”
“There is no need for him to panic; we wouldn’t deny him the
ticket, especially since he is one of us and has been a loyal ODM member for
years,” said Oburu.
Oburu added that he plans to meet Babu personally to
reaffirm the party’s support.
“We’re looking for strong, visionary, and dynamic leaders - and
Babu fits that.”
“I’ve already sent people to arrange a meeting. I’ll speak
to him and assure him everything is still on track.”
The remarks come days after Babu revealed that Wiper Party
leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, had offered him the Deputy Party Leader position,
prompting him to question his value within ODM.
“Even a polling station chairman position, I can’t be
given,” Babu lamented.
He also cited recent political developments, including
Governor Johnson Sakaja’s endorsement, as signs that his chances within ODM may
be fading.
“That’s how I know my ticket with ODM is gone. Or will go,”
he said.
