Governor ORENGO warns ODM 'would lose a lot' if firebrand Secretary General, EDWIN SIFUNA, quits

Wednesday, October 8, 2025 - Siaya Governor James Orengo has issued a strong warning that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) risks serious internal instability if Secretary General Edwin Sifuna were to exit his role.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, October 7th, 2025, Orengo described Sifuna as a vital pillar of the party whose bold leadership has kept ODM cohesive and focused.

“The party would lose a lot if Sifuna were not here.”

“He listens, he reasons, and he ensures that decisions are well-grounded,” Orengo said.

Sifuna recently stated he is ready to step down if the ODM hierarchy loses confidence in him.

Orengo responded by highlighting the importance of principled leaders who challenge ideas and promote accountability.

“Sifuna has always been bold in his positions. He ensures that even difficult conversations happen, and that strengthens the party rather than weakens it,” he added.

Orengo noted that Sifuna’s influence goes beyond administrative duties and warned that losing Sifuna’s coordination could disrupt the party’s unity at a critical time.

“The ODM’s strength is its structure and disciplined approach,” Orengo said.

“Without Sifuna coordinating, we risk losing cohesion at a critical time in our country’s politics.”

Sifuna has openly opposed ODM’s pact with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Government and warned that he could leave the party if it backs Ruto’s re-election in 2027.

According to Orengo, such courage and clarity are assets ODM cannot afford to lose, especially as political alliances continue to shift ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
