Dutch national who spat on a Kenyan police officer in Diani begs for forgiveness, says he has psychosis - “I want to invest and help Kenyans”

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 - A Dutch national caught in a viral video verbally abusing and spitting at a police officer in Diani has publicly apologized.

The tourist identified as Elwin Ter Horst, who claims to suffer from psychosis, said he was in distress and hadn’t eaten or taken his medication at the time of the incident.

In the video, Horst is seen being escorted by officers into a car as he pleads with Kenyans to forgive him.

“Apologies, I have psychosis and need my medicine. I want to live in this country, invest here, and help the people of Kenya.”

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, at Boma Banda Cottage along Beach Road. Police reports indicate Horst had caused a disturbance, destroyed property, and assaulted his girlfriend, Angela Atieno Onduru.

Officers from Diani Police Station responded swiftly after receiving complaints from residents.

Msambweni OCPD Robinson Langat confirmed that the girlfriend had been rescued and taken to hospital, while Horst had locked himself in his room.

After lengthy negotiations, he was arrested and later charged with multiple offences, including drug trafficking, assault, malicious damage, creating a disturbance, and being unlawfully present in Kenya.

Langat emphasized that Kenya’s laws apply to all, regardless of nationality.

“Any form of abuse or misconduct will lead to prosecution and deportation,” he warned.
