Thursday, October 9, 2025 - Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, has reignited claims of a 2019 plot to assassinate then - Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking on the Iko Nini podcast on October 9th,
2025, Itumbi insisted that a meeting held at a Nairobi hotel involving senior Government
officials was real and aimed at derailing Ruto’s presidential ambitions.
“It is absolutely factual. I have videos. I stood in court.”
“The then police boss opposed. Those matters are in court,”
he said, adding that a court order still bars him from releasing the footage.
Itumbi named a former Principal Secretary (PS) as a key
figure in the alleged plot, claiming the PS filed a complaint against him but
later refused to testify.
“We asked him to come and deny the meeting ever happened so
I could call witnesses who were present.
“He declined,” Itumbi explained.
He alleged that the meeting took place in the basement of La
Mada Hotel, near the National Intelligence Service (NIS) headquarters, and was
attended by several Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries.
Two CSs reportedly excused themselves, one citing a flight
to Rwanda.
In a chilling revelation, Itumbi claimed that the PS
referenced the late Internal Security Minister George Saitoti, who died in a
2012 helicopter crash.
“He said, ‘We’ll do everything possible, including what we
did to Saitoti.’ I said it in court,” Itumbi stated.
He further alleged that the PS used his influence to remove
his name from case documents, but Itumbi retained original records from the
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which he presented in court.
The case remains under legal restriction.
