23, 2025 - Outspoken Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei, has downplayed recent
comments by ODM leader, Raila Odinga, suggesting that the party may field a
presidential candidate in the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on Monday, September 22nd, Cherargei
emphasized that the ongoing ODM-UDA partnership remains strong and should not
be misinterpreted.
“People should not read too much into what Raila said during
the ODM Parliamentary Group meeting.”
“The UDA-ODM joint partnership is working perfectly beyond
2027,” Cherargei stated.
He reminded Kenyans of President William Ruto’s political
roots in ODM, adding that the cooperation between the two parties remains
intact.
“President Ruto is a former ODM member. Ironically, Edwin
Sifuna, who signed the UDA-ODM working agreement, is the only one celebrating
Raila’s remarks,” he added.
Raila, addressing ODM lawmakers earlier in the day,
dismissed speculation that the party will not present a candidate in the next
election.
“We are ODM. Who told you we won’t have a candidate in
2027?” he posed.
He clarified that no resolutions have been passed regarding
ODM’s 2027 electoral strategy and cautioned against premature declarations.
Despite the speculation, Raila reaffirmed ODM’s commitment
to its cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration, which runs through
2027.
“We have a clear plan. Let us continue to implement it,” he
concluded, urging members to uphold ODM’s identity while honoring the agreed
framework.
