Three men sentenced to life imprisonment for stealing a phone, shoes and memory card in Kajiado

Friday, September 26, 2025 - A Ngong court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment after convicting them of robbery with violence in a case that shocked residents of Kajiado County.

The trio, Brian Kutitila Wanyama, Japhnae Wanyonyi Mukalama, and Thomas Wakoli Malava, were found guilty of violently robbing Andrew Muthure Wairia on December 18th, 2021, in Kibiku, Kajiado West.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the attackers stole a Huawei Y9 phone worth Ksh 24,990, a memory card valued at Ksh 3,995, and a pair of Reebok shoes worth Ksh 4,000.

They also transferred Ksh 3,970 from the victim’s mobile money account to a number registered under Wanyama’s name.

The victim was assaulted during the robbery and left with injuries.

The court ruled that the prosecution had proven all elements of robbery with violence beyond reasonable doubt, handing life sentences to all three.

In addition, Wanyama received a two-year sentence for resisting arrest on December 29th, 2021, in Bulbul, Kajiado North.

Malava was also convicted in a separate robbery case from September 5th, 2021, in Oloolua, Kajiado North.

He and accomplices violently robbed Patrick Nyaga Kariuki of items including a smart TV, concrete vibrator, mobile phones, and Ksh 50,000 in cash, valued at Ksh 227,000 in total.

He received a second life sentence for this offence.

The convictions mark a significant win for the ODPP in tackling violent crime in the region.
