Student who sued Kenyatta University over missing marks and awarded Ksh 850,000 alleges threats amid graduation dispute!

Friday, July 11, 2025 - A female student from Kenyatta University has alleged that her life is in danger following a legal battle with the institution over her graduation status.

The student took to social media to claim that the university is defying a High Court order requiring it to include her in the upcoming July 2025 graduation list.

According to a judgment issued on May 22nd, Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled in favor of the student, ordering the university to pay her Ksh850,000.

The court found that the university’s failure to release her Continuous Assessment Test (CAT) marks for unit UCU 104 violated her constitutional rights.

Justice Mugambi described the university’s actions as irrational, unconstitutional, illegal, and a breach of legitimate expectation.

Despite the ruling, the student alleges that the university’s academic registrar has refused to comply and deliberately omitted her name from the graduation list.

She also claimed to have received threatening phone calls from a lecturer, allegedly using a university line, after she lodged a complaint with the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic.

“The professor threatened my life, saying they won’t honor the court’s decision because they don’t agree with it.”

“I was forced to report the matter to Nanyuki Police,” she stated.

Calling the university’s actions an example of institutional impunity, the student vowed to continue pursuing justice.

Kenyatta University is yet to issue a response.

The university’s 57th graduation ceremony is scheduled for July 18th, 2025.
