Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - In a gripping cross-border operation, FBI agents have arrested a 20-year-old murder suspect in Kenya and extradited him to the United States to face charges over the fatal shooting of 67-year-old Yuam Ming outside a Costco store in Tukwila, Washington.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle, the
suspect identified as Salman Haji, is now being held at King County Jail,
with bail set at a staggering Ksh647.5 million (USD 5 million).
He and an alleged accomplice, also aged 20, are facing
multiple charges, including murder, robbery, and attempted robbery.
The incident occurred on January 26th, 2024, as
Ming and her sister were loading groceries into their car.
The suspect reportedly attempted to snatch the sister’s
purse and, in the struggle, shot and killed Ming.
The accomplice is alleged to have been waiting in a stolen
Porsche SUV used as the getaway vehicle.
Just five days after the crime, the main suspect fled the
U.S, prompting a months-long international manhunt. U.S. authorities worked
closely with Kenyan law enforcement and Interpol to trace and apprehend him.
Court filings suggest the suspect fled shortly after being
named on social media as a person of interest. The case against him includes
surveillance footage, dashcam video, witness statements, and forensic evidence.
He now awaits trial in Washington State, where prosecutors
are expected to seek a stiff sentence if convicted.
