Friday, June 20, 2025 - Former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, has urged young Kenyans popularly known as Gen Z, to take the next step in civic engagement by registering as voters ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking at JKIA after returning to the country from U.S.,
Matiang’i emphasized that while activism is important, real change will only
come through the ballot.
“Gen Z, we can do as much as we want, but if we are not
registering and preparing to vote, we have not succeeded,” he said.
“The drive is: we register, we vote, and we prepare
ourselves to participate effectively in the electoral process.”
The former Interior CS also expressed concern over the state
of the nation, calling for unity amid growing political and social unrest.
“I am pained by what is happening. Regardless of our
political views, we are one family.”
“We must find ways to engage one another,” he stated.
He added that national issues do not discriminate between
political divides and stressed the need for responsible leadership.
“Half of our problems are not financial - they stem from
poor management and leadership,” he said.
Matiang’i assured Kenyans of his commitment to positive
change.
“You can trust me. I’ll spend my time finding solutions, not
spreading negativity. Let’s focus on building, not blaming.”
The Jubilee Party has since endorsed Matiang’i as its
presidential flag bearer in the 2027 General Election, positioning him as the
strongest challenger to President William Ruto.
