Tuesday, September 10, 2024 - Former PSV Eindhoven player, Rai Vloet is facing a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for causing the death of a four-year-old boy in a car crash.
The crash that claimed the life of the young child took
place in 2021 and the Public Prosecution Service had called for Vloet to have
his initial sentence extended by a further 12 months.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder was sentenced last year
but later opted to appeal the decision
But, the former footballer has now decided to withdraw the
appeal with ANP confirming that his lawyer, Alrik de Haas, has pulled the
motion on September 3.
The Public Prosecution Service have also made the same
decision with their appeal meaning Vloet is now set to serve his prison
sentence handed down to him for causing the crash.
Vloet was reportedly 'smelling of alcohol and with bloodshot
eyes' when he crashed on the A4 near Hoofddorp which resulted in the death
of Gio Roos.
The incident is understood to have happened when he was
driving a group of friends to Rotterdam after a party in Amsterdam.
He was playing for the Dutch Eredivisie side at the time and
is now considering retiring from professional football.
