Thursday, October 15, 2026 - Two suspects captured on CCTV breaking into a parked vehicle near a hotel in Ngurubani town, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, have been arrested in Ruiru.

Detectives in Mwea East Sub-County identified the suspects as Vincent Juma Ranguma and Rosalid Wangari Mwihaki.

Wang’uru Law Court has granted police seven days to detain them at Wang’uru Police Station as investigations continue.

According to detectives, the suspects admitted to being part of a gang of five involved in the theft.

CCTV footage from the hotel shows Ranguma unlocking a parked Toyota Prado as Mwihaki allegedly keeps watch.

A second vehicle, believed to have been used by the gang, is seen parked nearby, with its driver also checking the surroundings.

The suspects are later captured leaving the premises in their vehicle after allegedly stealing KSh 70,000, a laptop and a power bank.

The duo had been sought by police, with hotel owner Charles Njiru Mkombozi offering a KSh 100,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Detectives are also investigating the suspects and their alleged accomplices over similar thefts from locked motor vehicles reported at Meru Police Station, Obama Police Station in Kayole, Nairobi, and Makongeni Police Station in Thika West, Kiambu County.

Investigations into the alleged criminal network are ongoing as police seek to establish the full extent of its activities.
