Wednesday, July 22, 2026 - President William Ruto has nominated Mary Kilobi, wife of Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, to a lucrative government position.
Kilobi is among seven nominees proposed to join the
Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), pending ratification
by the National and County Government Co-ordinating Summit.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 21, by Chief of
Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, who said the nominations were
part of sweeping changes across Constitutional Commissions, statutory bodies,
and senior executive positions.
“The Head of State and Government has further nominated the following persons for appointment as members of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC), subject to ratification… in accordance with the Intergovernmental Relations Act,” Koskei’s statement read.
Kilobi’s fellow nominees include Wilson Kuria Thuita (Murang’a), Silvya Apaa (Busia), Ahmed Kanyara Bishar (Wajir), Pascalyne Ntang’enoi Kimiriri (Laikipia), Ken Riaga (Migori), and Evalyn Chepkirui Aruasa (Nakuru).
The nominations are part of a broader restructuring by Ruto to fill vacancies that arose earlier in the year.
Among other notable picks is legal scholar Duncan Ojwang
Oburu, proposed as Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority
(IPOA).
Former KNUT Secretary-General Wilson Sossion and Antonina Lentoijoni have also been nominated to the Teachers Service Commission, while Flora Mutua has been tapped for the Public Service Commission.
