Wednesday, July 29, 2026 - A female police officer attached to the Kisii Central Subcounty Police Headquarters has been found dead in an incident that authorities are investigating as a suspected suicide.
The deceased, identified as Corporal Marjorie Bosibori, 42,
was a police signaller attached to the subcounty radio room.
According to a police report, she was discovered at around
8:00 a.m. on Tuesday by a fellow officer who had gone to open the radio room
office.
She was found seated and unresponsive with a gunshot wound
to the chest, while an AK-47 rifle lay beside her.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the officer had locked
herself inside the office before sustaining the fatal gunshot wound using the
service rifle.
Police said Corporal Bosibori had collected the AK-47 rifle
from the Kisii Central Police Station armoury at around 6:00 p.m. on Monday
before proceeding to provide security at a supermarket in Kisii Town.
Detectives and crime scene investigators recovered the AK-47
rifle, one spent 7.62×39mm cartridge, a magazine loaded with 29 rounds of
ammunition, the office padlock key, assorted medical drugs, and three mobile
phones from the scene.
Authorities said no suicide note was recovered during a
search, and the officer was still dressed in full police jungle uniform when
her body was found.
Her body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral
Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted
as investigations continue.
Police have not established the motive behind the suspected su!c!de.
