Friday, July 03, 2026 - Former Chief Justice David
Maraga has cautioned Kenyans against re-electing President William Ruto for a
second term in the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking during a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisii on Friday,
July 3rd, Maraga criticized the Head of State for what he termed as
blatant disregard for human life, citing Ruto’s controversial “shoot on the
foot” directive to police officers.
He also condemned looting of public resources and the
extravagance of the current regime.
“Kenyans, please listen to me. It would be a tragedy if Ruto
came back as president on August 10, 2027.”
“We will not have a country; Kenya will not be the same,”
Maraga warned, pointing to reports that the Kenya Ports Authority spent Ksh 6
billion on a 1.4‑kilometre road at the port as an example of misappropriation.
Maraga revealed that he was in talks with Linda Mwananchi
leaders to chart a way forward in their bid to unseat the incumbent.
He emphasized that Kenya’s wealth is being eroded by
corruption and urged citizens to rally behind reformist leadership.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, who recently joined the
faction, echoed Maraga’s sentiments, saying Linda Mwananchi is the only
political front capable of uniting Kenyans.
“The only political faction that is national is Linda
Mwananchi.”
“That’s an ideal our forefathers were unable to achieve
since independence.”
“We believe in 2027, Linda Mwananchi will achieve that dream
of a unified Kenya,” he said.
Other leaders present at the Kisii rally included Nairobi
Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Law Society of Kenya President, Faith Odhiambo,
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
