Tuesday, June 2, 2026 - Tension is reportedly high at Vigilance House following the tragic arson attack at Utumishi Girls Academy that claimed the lives of 16 students.

According to reports, the tragedy has deeply affected senior ranks within the National Police Service after it emerged that a top police officer lost his daughter in the deadly dormitory fire.

The situation has reportedly become even more sensitive after claims surfaced that the daughter of another senior police officer is among the seven suspects being investigated over the fatal incident.

Utumishi Girls Academy admits children of top police officers and other senior Government officials, making the case even more sensitive within security circles.

The suspects told detectives that the deadly attack was motivated by grievances over changes to the school examination calendar, the introduction of charges for a cultural event and peer influence following a strike at a neighbouring boys’ school.
