18 pregnant police trainees among 54 dismissed from Kiganjo College raising concerns over credibility of recruitment process

Friday, May 08, 2026 - The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed 54 recruits from the National Police Training College, Kiganjo, after uncovering cases of pregnancy, forged documents and criminal records among trainees.

Commandant of the Kiganjo Campus, Munga Nyale, confirmed the dismissals during the Basic Recruit Training Course progress assessment held on Thursday, May 7th.

He revealed that the integrity of the recruitment process had been compromised, prompting the termination of training for the affected individuals.

According to official data, 18 female recruits were sent home due to pregnancy and related issues, while another 18 were dismissed for presenting forged academic certificates.

Ten others were found to have previous criminal convictions, disqualifying them from service.

In addition, two trainees allegedly used forged identification documents, two were removed on health grounds, and three were disqualified for disciplinary violations.

One trainee voluntarily withdrew due to serious illness.

Nyale, who serves as Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, emphasized that the dismissed recruits had initially passed the competitive recruitment exercise conducted in November 2025.

However, subsequent vetting revealed violations that undermined the credibility of the process.
