12, 2026 - The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has banned 21 mobile
phone brands deemed unsafe and unapproved for the local market.
In a notice to Kenyans, CA Director General David Mugonyi
warned that the influx of non-type approved devices poses health and safety
risks.
He cautioned Kenyans against purchasing them and directed
vendors to stop selling the flagged phones immediately.
The banned brands include: Tinsik, Realfone, F+, Fonrox,
Mez, Nemojo, Vue, Bundy, Qqmee, U-FM, Chatada, Superx, Momofly, WR, X Oda,
Smba, Q-Seven, Ugbad, FT, Raeno and Switch.
Mugonyi urged consumers to buy only from licensed dealers
and verify authenticity before purchase.
“Check the authenticity of mobile phones by dialing *#06#
and sending the 15-digit IMEI number as an SMS to 1555, or confirm on the CA
website free of charge,” he advised.
According to the CA, the Type Approval process ensures all
ICT devices meet national and international standards on safety, health, and
electromagnetic compatibility.
This protects users from hazardous products, minimizes
health risks and prevents interference with other electronics.
