2026 - Safety is steadily being reinforced across Kenya’s Coast following a
coordinated crackdown by security agencies in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale
targeting violent criminal gangs that have unsettled communities in recent
weeks.
Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives carried out
targeted operations against profiled gang members suspected to be behind a
string of violent attacks commonly associated with the so-called “panga boys.”
The gangs have been blamed for a rise in muggings assaults,
and intimidation in parts of the region.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects identified
as Nicholas Mumba Chisiwa, Haniff Iqbal Sharbaz, Salim Mafuko Hamis, Ali Musa
Mwachimwandi, Sadik Hamis Mwanzembe and Samuel Gitonga.
During the arrests, officers recovered assorted crude
weapons and narcotic substances.
Authorities said the items seized corroborate prior
intelligence linking the suspects and their networks to violent criminal
activity as well as drug-related operations.
Security officials noted that the recovery of weapons
alongside narcotics underscores the compound threat posed by organized criminal
groups to public order and community safety in the Coast region.
All the suspects are currently undergoing processing as
detectives advance investigations into multiple related incidents that remain
under active review.
Security agencies have maintained heightened vigilance and affirmed their commitment to pursuing remaining members and facilitators of the criminal cells to ensure sustained safety and stability across Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and neighboring areas.
